Daniel Lovering is a business writer for The Associated Press based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. From 2000 to 2005, he was based in Bangkok, Thailand, where he covered several countries in Southeast Asia. During that period, he covered the aftermath of the Indian Ocean tsunami, the spread of bird flu, ethnic insurgencies, political strife and the resettlement of refugees, among other stories. He also reported from Afghanistan and Pakistan. Before joining the AP in early 2002, he was a Bangkok-based correspondent for Agence France-Presse. Previously, he covered the Internet industry in Southeast Asia for asia.internet.com, an online trade publication, and wrote for several newspapers and magazines, including The Asian Wall Street Journal, The Economist, The Boston Globe, BusinessWeek and Scientific American. A recipient of a New York Times Foundation fellowship, he began working as a freelance journalist in 1995. He graduated from Columbia University's Graduate School of Journalism and Oberlin College.
